Dedicated to victims of hateful and ignorant prejudices.

Awarded “Highly Commended” in the 2011 International Federation for Choral Music Composition Competition.

Following the tragic death of Tyler Clementi in 2010, I was asked to compose this piece for a student-led service at Westminster Choir College, held in solidarity with the grieving LGBTQ+ community. The piece begins by asking the question, “Why?”, providing space for both listener and performer to express grief, disbelief, and anger over the thoughtless bigotry that led to Tyler’s suicide. The second half of the piece exalts, “Love!”, reaffirming a belief that love is stronger than hatred.

The original SSATBB version is available through the publisher Musikverlag Hayo (click on the Buy Score button), and a version for TTBB is available by contacting the composer.
